The mill operates using arms sails which rotate with the power of the wind and a gear system which grinds sugar cane to extract cane juice. This sugar windmill was restored by the Barbados National Trust and is one of the last of two functioning sugar wind mills in the Caribbean. The site is an attraction to visit and it houses plantation artefacts and other exhibits. The site also provides a spectacular view of the coast and the parish of St. Andrew. Barbados National Trust maintains this attraction and demonstrates the operation of the sugar windmill.
